USA: Tiverton Casino, located on Rhode Island, officially opened its doors to the public on Saturday, with hundreds of patrons taking in what it has to offer.
Even before the opening, hundreds of people were milling around the facility, assessing what it has to offer.
Tiverton opened around 10am with the guest on the day having access to over 1000 video slot machines and other casino staples.
Cindy Tavares of Swansea, a visitor to the facility who was also among the first wave of players said she had been eagerly awaiting the opening.
“I was afraid I wasn’t going to get a machine, but there’s so many machines, and I love it,” she said.
“I love playing the slot machines. I love the excitement of knowing whether I’m going to win or not win.”
Aside from the slot machines, Tiverton also has table games including blackjack and poker which are expected to attract plenty of patrons to the casino.
A resident of New Bedford, Kyle Fernandez brought his 84-year old godfather to the opening of the casino.
“I brought him, and his wife and my sister and my daughter,” he said.
“[It] took us only 25 minutes to get here.”
When asked how he feels about having a new casino close to home, Fernandez said, “Could be dangerous, that’s all I can tell you. I like to gamble.”
Management of the casino, prior to its construction, estimated the facility would rack in annual revenue of more than $100 million.
Twin River management that runs the facility located on the Fall River Line expects to attract clients from the South Coast of Massachusetts and other nearby communities.
“It’s hard to explain. I don’t come to win; I come to have a good time,” A visitor from Dartmouth, Wayne Raedel said.
“If I win that’s a plus. If I don’t, I only come with what I can lose and if I lose it, I go home.”
The Tiverton Casino is expected to have around 550 staff when it is fully functional.
