Kuwait online casinos
Kuwait online casinos
Kuwait is an Islamic country which means that all forms of gambling are considered illegal, although this doesn’t stop locals from playing at online casinos licensed elsewhere.
For instance many leading gambling destinations licensed in the United Kingdom and Malta accept players from Kuwait, despite the local laws.

Gambling online in Kuwait
Due to the Islamic teachings in Kuwait, all forms of gambling are considered illegal. This means that you won’t find any land-based or online casinos, sportsbooks, poker rooms or anything else within the country.
The only way that someone living in Kuwait can access online gambling options is by joining a foreign-based platform. As is the case in a small group of other countries, Kuwait prosecutes players and gambling operators if they should be caught participating in the activity. Therefore, any person indulging in online gambling from within Kuwait can be arrested and thrown into jail as punishment.
As far as accessing offshore online platforms is concerned, while this is somewhat possible, the government can still prosecute residents for such actions, although it is very unlikely.
Even though this is the case, Kuwait is still known to have a significant underground gambling scene. And while this doesn’t pertain to one specific type of gambling, it remains as being something very risky to involve yourself in.
In fact, over the past 10 years or so, multiple arrests and shutdowns of illegal casino operations have taken place in Kuwait. It was only in 2014 that the authorities raided one of the biggest of these, arresting over 30 people in the process – some of which were visiting foreigners.
Online casino games
With some of the biggest online casino software operators in the world available to those in Kuwait, there is a great range of games available if you are playing from this country. These games include all of your favourite table game titles (live dealer is awesome!) and 100s of real money slots. Read our handy guides for more information on specific games:
Kuwaiti Dinar Deposit Options
While some online casinos will accept players registering from within Kuwait, it’s most likely that they will not allow deposits to be made in Kuwaiti dinar.
The same can be said for gameplay, too. In this respect, players who do choose to access offshore platforms from within the country will see their funds converted into an alternative currency, with most providing the US dollar option.
That being said, because the government is so strict when it comes to the policies on online gambling, Kuwaiti gamblers don’t have many payment methods from which to choose and utilise. Even though Visa and MasterCard credit and debit cards may be available to use, they have strong potential of being blocked by banks due to where the money is attempting to be deposited at. Here is a collection of available depositing methods for Kuwaiti gamblers:
- Credit and Debit Cards: Visa, MasterCard, Maestro (Potential for bank blocking)
- eWallets: Neteller, Skrill, ecoPayz
- Prepaid Cards: PaysafeCard, Entropay
- Cryptocurrencies: Bitcoin, Altcoins
Gambling history in Kuwait
Despite the fact that there has been somewhat of a big demand for gambling to be legalised in Kuwait, most people are quite pessimistic about this ever happening. You only need to see the actions that the government has been taking towards pretty much blocking anything and everything out of the country relating to gambling. This all stemmed from the realisation that residents were becoming increasingly interested in online casino games.
How was this possible though, with gambling being illegal in the country? Well, Kuwaiti gamblers were playing online games with virtual currency. So, not really gambling as virtual currency isn’t real. However, the government was concerned over what this could lead to, which led them to do research into it. Virtual currency is actually bought with real money so that virtual bets can be placed on these games. Yet, a large number of people in Kuwait illegally sell this virtual money to citizens, leading the government to further enhance and increase the strictness of its laws.
With this in mind, it’s true to say that all forms of gambling, from land-based through to online and mobile, are illegal in Kuwait. This is centred around the aforementioned Islamic teachings of the country, which depict gambling as being something that could be addictive and evil. As such, it could force people to forget their social responsibilities, and this is why gambling does not exist on an official level in Kuwait.
Online casino & gambling laws
The online gambling world is exactly the same as the offline gambling world in Kuwait – illegal and banned. The government has also been taking active steps towards banning offshore casinos, meaning that residents cannot even access foreign-based platforms.
The law that relates to offline gamblers also relates to those who are found to be participating online as well. Therefore, if you do get caught gambling in Kuwait, you could face serious jail time and/or have to pay a significant fine.
While it’s quite possible to locate offshore platforms that accept Kuwaiti players, it really depends upon how much of a risk you would want to take in potentially getting caught doing so. Plus, even though certain depositing methods are available for residents of Kuwait to use, the government is very strict and eagle-eyed on watching over the sort of transactions that its people do. Therefore, if you are a resident of Kuwait, it’s probably best to judge whether online gambling is something that you want to involve yourself in by your own standards.
Kuwait geography
Existing as a small country in Western Asia, Kuwait shares borders with Iraq and Saudi Arabia. Because of the large quantities of oil reserves found within Kuwait, the country went through a massive modernisation between the 1940s and 1980s. Yet, following this period, it went through a period of geopolitical instability, which preceded an economic crisis.
Everyone remembers Kuwait being invaded and annexed by Saddam Hussain’s Iraq in 1990, although this came to an end in 1991 following the Gulf War. Extensive efforts were made after this to rebuild Kuwait and revive its economy, and with the improvement of the country’s relation with the United States, it became a major non-NATO ally in 2004. While Kuwait’s history is somewhat storied, gambling in the country is very much a completely illegal practice. This relates to the Islamic religion of the country, meaning that citizens don’t have the possibility of really participating in gambling.
