PKR Poker review

PKR Poker review

Note: PKR Poker was permanently closed on on May 3, 2017 after entering administration following financial difficulties. It was acquired by Microgaming a year earlier and thanks to a close partnership with the PKR brand’s administrator, PokerStars, player funds were returned to all affected players. If you had an account with PKR prior to their shutdown and still have not received your funds, check the email associated with your PKR account for instructions or email PokerStars immediately.

Following PKR Poker’s closure, the contents of this review remains for informational purposes only.

PKR Poker aims to change the way online poker is played utilising a full 3D game engine and the ability to control the table the way the player sees fit. You cannot fault the flawless smooth gameplay provided and it was quite a refreshing change to be able look around a room and see other players and a dealer.

It could just be the closest feeling a player will have to being at a real table, while sitting at home on their computer. Players are also offered the ability to switch back to 2D mode for the regular online poker.

Players on low spec computer or slower Internet connection may prefer PKR Lite which is a more simplified version that cuts out the animation and allows a top down look only.

PKR brings to the table an avatar creation ability that allows the player to modify the character representing the user on the table the way they see fit, with 100’s of customisation options it has a greater character creation ability than many top-ranked video game titles, which is a very unique feature you will only find on PKR.

Once at a table with your avatar you have the ability to control his/her actions through a large variety of emotes while playing.

Cash games at PKR Poker

PKR caters for the more popular poker games only such as:

  • “The Cadillac of poker” No Limit Texas Hold’em
  • Limit Texas Hold’em
  • Pot limit Omaha and its HI/LO variant

Players at PKR are offered a large selection of stakes to accommodate players of all experience and bankrolls; these start at 1 cent per 1 cent / 2 cent blinds and are capped at $25/$50.

From a general observation the majority of players tend to flock to the low limit six max tables, however if patient enough you can find a good game against softer players, than you would find on rival poker sites, that are begging to give you their money.

Regular tournaments at PKR

Tournaments on average are being begin every 15-30 minutes which means there is always a game going for the Australian players. Similar to the cash games you are offered a large variety of buy-ins that are sure to suit any players bankroll. There are also many freeroll games offering cash prizes for players patient enough to play through normally large fields for low return.

Unfortunately the tournaments appear to mainly be NLH (No Limit Texas Hold’em) and finding a PLO (Pot limit Omaha) tournament is like finding a needle in a haystack.

PKR points system & customer rewards

Club PKR is a tier based progression system where players accrue points known as PKR points. You earn points every time you play a cash game hand, as well as for entering tournaments and Sit & Go’s.

Players must earn 5000 points and make their first deposit before they earn the title of ‘Member’. Member players can continue to earn points to progress to the following ranks:

  • Bronze (35,001 points)
  • Silver (100,001 points)
  • Gold (500,001 points)
  • Platinum (1,000,001 points)
  • Diamond (2,500,001+ points)

Each time you jump in rank it unlocks new benefits such as exclusive freeroll entries, tournament tickets and free gifts sent from the PKR team. These PKR points may also be spent in the tournament lobby, in the My PKR ticket shop or in the Avatar shop to unlock tournaments, tournament tickets or cosmetic items for your avatar, all points spent will still count towards your Club PKR rank.

PKR mobile

The mobile app provided for the android system runs as smooth as the pc equivalent and has the same impressive 3D graphics, with an easy to use interface that makes finding games just as easy as on pc. To download this app simply go to http://www.pkr.com/en/mobile/

Other gambling games

PKR has branched out and also offers a large variety of other casino games in the same stunning 3D setting. Players may indulge in blackjack, Casino Hold’em, Caribbean stud, roulette & even online pokies in the virtual casino.

PKR payment methods

Australians have plenty of available deposit methods at PKR poker including the usual credit and debit cards like Visa and MasterCard, which are the most efficient and popular methods to deposit real money.

Other options including web wallets like Neteller which allow you to transfer instantly to and from your playing account, but keep in mind you need to fund your web wallet with another payment method like bank transfer or by linking your credit or debit card.

There are also an abundance of prepaid card deposit options available to AUD depositors, including Skrill, PaySafeCard and prepaid Visas.

Withdrawals can be made with the same method you deposited with, or any of the other options on the PKR website, which you can view here.

PKR support

Upon first opening the PKR website I was greeted with a popup asking if I would like to open a live chat with the support team to ask any questions, this is a nice change from having to send an email and wait for a reply or contact a call centre.

They also use an AI (artificial intelligence) chat feature that appeared to work really well when tested. Otherwise all problems can be submitted in the contact me section of the PKR site and you will have a reply within 48 hours or the FAQS section is always there for players to try and trouble shoot their own issues.
