Somewhere amongst the millions of hours of celebrity footage, news bloopers and cat videos, there’s a bunch of great gambling clips. While some aren’t worth the 20 seconds out of your life, there’s some absolute gems out there, some that are informative, others that are just plain entertaining.

We’ve sifted through the dark corners of YouTube to bring you five of our favourite gambling related videos.

1. Breaking Vegas documentary – The True Story of the MIT Blackjack Team

Breaking Vegas is a documentary about the MIT blackjack team who took the gambling world by storm when they mastered the art of card counting and became the most feared blackjack team around. The documentary is based on the bestselling book Bringing Down the House by Ben Mezrich. The story of the MIT blackjack team is also the inspiration behind the Kevin Spacey film 21. The team went on to win obscene amounts of cash before the casinos started to cotton on to what was going on, and this documentary is a fascinating insight into how the team pulled off such an elaborate scheme. You don’t have to be a gambler or even remotely interested in blackjack to watch this documentary, the story is compelling on its own right.

2. Top 10 gambling movies

This is a great 13 minute clip that gives viewers an overview of some of the best movies focused around gambling, with a quick look at each films synopsis and some of the best scenes ripped direct from the movie. If you’re looking for a gambling or casino themed movie to watch, this clip will give you a great idea of where to start, or perhaps it’ll just leave you itching for a trip to the casino. Some of the films included in this YouTube clip are Owning Mahoney, The Cooler, Maverick, The Colour of Money, The Gambler, 21, The Sting, The Cincinnati Kid and Rounders, but bizarrely enough Ocean’s Eleven and Casino Royale are nowhere to be seen.

3. World Series of Poker Main Event final table 2014

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5wlVFMNVJZQ

This video goes upward of six hours, so while only the most poker obsessed players out there would have enough focus to watch the entire event, this video is great to click through to see what the WSOP is all about. This annual event is absolutely massive, and it’s awesome to see real life professional poker players in their element, plus you may just learn a thing or two from their indeterminable poker faces (complete with baseball caps, hoods and dark lensed sunglasses). The cool thing about this broadcast is that as a viewer you’re privileged to seeing what cards each player currently holds, so it adds to the suspense of not knowing how they’re going to play their hand. All poker players, new and experienced, should at least watch a bit of one of these World Series of Poker clips to see how it’s all done in the pro world.

4. How to win at blackjack with The Wizard of Odds

What this video lacks in charisma, it makes up with useful information. This 13 minute clip is a good blackjack starting point for punters who absorb information more successfully through video and audio, or for those who don’t have the concentration or time to read through detailed blackjack guides. The video is presented by Steve Bourie, the author of The American Casino Guide who you will see pop up quite a bit if you spend enough time trolling YouTube for gambling videos, but this video stands out as he interviews the creator of the famous Wizard of Odds website to give viewers a clear run down on how to play blackjack. He answers some of the most common questions regarding 21, along with some hot tips and strategies for blackjack players.

5. Casino Royale final poker hand

This 2006 James Bond film starring Daniel Craig, Eva Green and Judy Dench was a huge blockbuster success and if you’re a gambling fanatic, chances are you’ve seen Casino Royale once or twice (or perhaps even the classic 1967 version). With over a million viewers, one of the most watched scenes from the film is the final poker scene, a tense, yet supremely classy couple of minutes of card play. While YouTube users have had a field day laughing at how unrealistic the scene is (with some comments that are admittedly hilarious) let’s just remember that this is a Hollywood movie after all. This final poker scene may not be realistic but it’s fun to watch to dream of the high rolling, elegant lifestyle if nothing else.
