Wonder Woman pokies review
Wonder Woman pokies review
Wonder Woman was the first comic book heroine to capture the world’s attention and is making a comeback with a new film set to be released in 2017. However, this Cryptologic pokie is based on the comic version by DC Comics, the original Wonder Woman who paved the way for our heroines today. We take a look at whether the software provider has done the comic book justice and what features are on offer to determine if you should place real money wagers on the reels.

How to play Wonder Woman
Wonder Woman is considered to be one of the most famous heroines of all time and is a warrior princess of the Amazons. She was given power to fight against evil and interestingly was raised entirely by women.
She fights crime with the Lasso of Truth, an invisible jet, and magic gauntlets, all of which we expected to see on this 5 reel and 50 payline pokie – but unfortunately we don’t (we do get to see the jet though).

The traditional pokies audio effects are added here, we’re guessing since comic books don’t come with a soundtrack, but a few effects wouldn’t go astray to add to the ambience. You can mute the sound via the icon next to the reels on the left hand side.
Wonder Woman symbols
The traditional symbols are used here for the lower value symbols, and we can’t help feeling somewhat disappointed since there are so many symbols which could’ve been used to tie in with the Wonder Woman theme.
These symbols include the 9, 10, J, Q, K and A, with the best possible payout here set at 200 coins by spinning five A symbols.
The middle value symbols include the jet and the Greek temple (which ties in with the original comics based on Greek mythology) with the best payout set at 500 coins by spinning five of either symbol.
The higher value symbols to keep an eye out for include the Ares (the evil looking robot) and the red-headed female, with the best payout, and the jackpot of the game, set at 5000 coins by spinning five Ares symbols.
- Wild:
The Wild symbol is the pokies logo/Wonder Woman, and only appears on reels 2, 3, 4, and 5 – substituting for all symbols except the Scatter symbol. - Scatter:
The Scatter symbol is the Wonder Woman symbol with the text ‘Scatter’. The symbol offers a payout, instead of triggering any free spins, with two Scatters scoring you two coins, three scoring you five coins, four scoring you 20 coins, and five scoring you 200 coins. The Scatter also activates the Area Showdown Feature, provided you are in the Bonus Bet mode. - Bonus symbol:
The Bonus symbol, which is the Wonder Woman symbol with the text ‘Bonus’ only appears when you activate ‘Bonus Bet’, which we will detail below.
Wonder Woman bonus features
There are a number of bonus features to Wonder Woman, though some require you to pay more just for the chance to trigger them.
- Bonus Bet:
The Bonus Bet can be activated by clicking the ‘Bonus Bet’ button near the ‘Spin’ button. You do need to have all 50 paylines activated and it will cost you 10 extra coins. However, when you are in this mode all Scatter prizes are multiplied by 50 and the Area Showdown Feature can be activated. - Area Showdown Feature:
You must be in the Bonus Bet mode to activate the Area Showdown Feature and you need to spin at least three Scatter symbols. Here, Ares will attack Wonder Woman three times, and if Wonder Woman defeats him every time a payout of 100x your initial bet will be credited to your account. - Wild Free Games:
In the base game, when you spin at least three Wonder Woman Wilds you will activate eight free spins. Here, additional Wilds are added to the reels; they will be held for up to five of the eight free spins. A 2x multiplier is applied to all winnings here too, but it is important to note you cannot re-trigger free games during the Free Spins feature.
Our thoughts on the Wonder Woman slot
Graphically speaking, we are a bit disappointed when it comes to Cryptologic’s Wonder Woman pokie aas it lacks the animations and exciting symbols to really do the DC Comic justice.
When it comes to the features we’re actually quite intrigued, however with just eight free games on offer which can’t be re-triggered it is a bit lack lustre. Additionally, to have to pay more than expected just to trigger a feature (Area Showdown Feature) when the bonus Bet already has its own function is quite annoying.
When you do trigger the Area Showdown Feature however, the online slots game turns into more of an exciting video game where you have to try and defeat Ares and his zombies – and here we won 300 credits doing so.
Overall this pokie could’ve been a lot better considering the heroine it is based on, but we recommend trying it out for yourself to see how you like it.
